"This was in response to her already high salary. She found it cringeworthy to ask for MORE than she was already making, because she felt it was already more than adequate."
I have removed it. If someone has a better solution please let me know.

I'm reporting anything that I think other moderators might disagree with me on and want to discuss.
"On your orders. That will be easy."

It's probably a good idea for us to figure out which posts we want and which ones we don't
so this channel is a good idea for saying "hey i don't know about this one"

Once we get past this "antiwork" / "moderators!!!" phase, it will be a lot easier to moderate

I have been daydreaming about just kicking "mod" into auto-remove for a while
but the community should probably have this catharsis

It's ironic because if you do, then it will be "MODS ARE DELETING POSTS ABOUT MODS!@!!!" if someone figures it out, which they inevitably will lol

the most important thing to curate right now is the front page of the subreddit & new incoming posts. Keep those focused and on-topic and the rest will come together nicely.
"A Tough, Sturdy Animal"
27-Jan-22 10:34 PM
I feel we can gradually prune these sorts of things. E.g. if today 2 front page slots are about drama, then tomorrow 1. Then the day after 0.

I was about to say - by this time tomorrow, we should have no posts on the front 2 pages of the sub about anti-work or mods or anything like that
We are letting nothing like that through now. It'll fall off with time.

Should we sort 'rapist' into auto-remove for a bit? The therapists will just have to suffer for a while

"Look At Me, I'm The Captain Now" regex supports \b for word delimiters
e.g. \brapist in the automoderator string would filter "you are a rapist" but not "you are a therapist"... would have to test the config though

I agree. For the purpose of the sub I think this falls under the "divisive wedge issues" category we discussed earlier. These conversations are not relevant to [LABOR] reform. Even if we share strong opinions on them, they are not topical (like how MMA, Too Hot To Handle, or grandma's favorite Apple Pie recipe aren't topical). These conversations are what adversaries will use to attempt to fracture the community to left and right, white vs black, etc, when the demographics all have a common goal of [LABOR] reform. We should not allow these discussions and we should not take sides on them. At most, we take a side on hate through its removal.

"A Tough, Sturdy Animal"

I'd prefer we start light-handed. We need people in the community to spark discussions and get conversations going. Some people will be overzealous but I think that's a good problem to have and we should try to leverage that in our favor. I don't see a positive outcome to muting/banhammer spamming; at best a neutral outcome. But I see a positive outcome if we try to be diplomatic with those that I do think have positive intentions. This is literally day 2 for most of us. Let's give it a shot.
(edited)
With [BERNIE_SUB] we had incredibly active community collaborators who at time we disagreed with, but I think that was mostly for the better because at minimum they cared and were mostly pushing things forward with us.
Also given the movement absolutely hates crappy managers just willy nilly pushing people around or playing power fantasies (see the recent drama)... Dishing out undue punishments to employees as if they are children, etc... I think it's very important we try to avoid any misconceptions of that with people who really are our allies.

I personally think thats a great thing to be striving towards, but there are groups of active bad faith actors working against us, and I think we need to set a line in the sand on what is acceptable, to an extent, at least until the Fox News drama blows over.
"A Tough, Sturdy Animal"
28-Jan-22 03:49 AM
Is the user getting reports? That to me is a problem we can discuss with them. But if our annoyance is that we keep seeing their walls of text because our automod filter sucks then let's fix that first. All I'm saying is... This is one user we're talking about, not a billion independent bad actors that we don't have time to reason about. We can afford to do this one right.

I think "Conservatives on this subreddit are bad" posts are not good things to let through. A lot of people are one conversation away from getting on board with [LABOR] reform. Don't pit the working class against one another, keep the focus on the ruling class's denial of [LABOR] reform.

I prefer we allow wiki bots. I've always found them useful on mobile. They paste a TL;DR of articles and tend to have organic discussions below them. OK with having users summarize things themselves though.

Are we OK with approving it then? I don't see what's wrong with it.
We should own our mistakes, if this is a mistake. It's no big deal but there's no point covering it.

Hey I was wondering if I could get automod permissions, I'm familiar with regex, and can refine it to prevent some false positives.
I also noticed it's doing reports which is clogging up our ability to see real user reports. There's also a match error that isn't listing what the caught content was.

Good to hear, I feel like a lot of content is still being smooshed through mod que, it's making us too focus on tedious mod tasks that can be automated versus us focusing more on community content and facilitating productive discussions.

Will it though if we mention how we're trying to move away from internal and subreddit drama?
It may give the false impression that we're removing any and all comments, I think most people will understand, and it will likely prevent future spam once a person is notified about this.
"A Tough, Sturdy Animal"
28-Jan-22 01:29 PM
I think once we get the interim rules / "who we are" sticky up, we can point people at the "who we are" post as a sort of megathread. People are excited and it will take time and patience to align the community.
I often feel the frustration on reddit is less "moderators powertrip" (though that is an issue) and more "moderation is opaque". I think being transparent here and having a basic code of conduct that explains "we are removing this not because we agree or disagree with you, but because we have taken a stance that this can be discussed elsewhere and does not be discussed here where it is more likely to divide than unify us"

That's a good approach, people want discussions and it'll be easier with some megathreads for people to vent a bit too.
True, people just want mods to be transparent for a predictable expereince.
"A Tough, Sturdy Animal"
28-Jan-22 01:33 PM
Also, I understand we want the subreddit to be focused, but I think it's important to leave space for controversial discussions so long as they remain productive. They keep people coming back for critical thought and stir the melting pot. I think that's good.
I think we can think of them like fuel to nuclear reactors - we just need to control how much we let in so things don't violently explode. But we also don't want nothing.

It has a good message, but throwing hammers and sickles everywhere on our sub is probably counterproductive. It's not a perfect comparison, but it'd be a bit like a right-winger posting a video of themselves talking about a valid negative work experience w/ a blue lives matter flag behind them. It's bait for right wing hate, left-left infighting ad nauseum, and off-topic random arguments about the soviet union. I understand hammers and sickles are important to <some> pro-worker movements and am open to hear others' opinions?
I believe this removal reflects the community's will as written in the comments.

An individual who has a question can hit modmail.
An individual who makes a post demanding an answer from mods is trying to stir the community also.
Bad actors will try to weaken the relationship between community and mods because, regardless of what the community might say, they look to mods for direction.
"Mods must explain" reduces the effectiveness of [LABOR]reform.
1
"A Tough, Sturdy Animal"
29-Jan-22 11:13 AM
How do larger real-world labor organizations handle this? There has to be space for people to collectively dissent and challenge those in power (and mods objectively have more power than non-mods) given that's sort of everything [LABOR]reform stands for right?
A fairly common tactic by work bosses IS to have people individually talk to them, rather than collectively doing so in a group setting. It is intimidating for the individual and lets their bosses shut them down and feel like loons. By raising issues in a group setting (or having a union person with them if they have disciplinary talks) they get group power.

Organizational democracy breaks down quickly without leaders. Flat organizations often get completely log-jammed.
Re mod criticism, here's my observations n thoughts:
1. The more of it you allow, the more of it you're going to increasingly get.
2. It wrecks out mods. This shit ain't paid. When the internet horde is going after you, 95/96 mods are going to quit. W'eve already seen some of this happen.
3. Wrecking out the mods destroys the organization.
4. Wrecking out mods is an especially effective form of organizational sabotage
5. Maybe it don't feel great, but protecting the organization and its goals necessarily involves shielding mods

i do believe that pitting workers against one another across party line is counter productive to the cause, but if i understanc correctly the current stance is simply quelling the rage and infighting. he is of course correct that conservative politicians work against the working class, and conservatives lap up the kool aid they spew and consequently work against the movement. the meta posts are being removed to get us back onto the message of the sub.

Oh, I won't. I just wondered if there's like an "automod" for not letting them in in the first place.
Also, I learned a new word today: "tankie"
Definition: "Delete my comment because I'm being a twat."

I think yes on the account age
DELTA

What should the account age be, 3 days? 7 days?
"I'VE GOT THE POWAH"

Karma restrictions have sort of negative returns when you go beyond 50-100 since lots of lurkers complain that they can't post. Keep in mind
3 days is prob most common grandpa

Is it possible for me to get automod permissions? There are some fixes and changes I'd like to make
Or someone with them can do it too. For the street address doxxing one, allow for symbols before numbers.
And we need to add a message for the account age requirement for users, people are thinking they're getting shadowbanned. This is turning away a lot of users thinking we're censoring them without some clarification.
We should also be adding simple reasons (if it hasn't been done yet) to the other removals just as a heads up.

I agree we can be more elaborate later, but for the time being a courtesy notification to let users know their comment/post has been temporarily removed will at least give them a bit of transparency.
"Look At Me, I'm The Captain Now"
30-Jan-22 09:57 AM
Yeah as things calm down we can settle into more normal subreddit ops like that. The reason we haven't rushed into doing removal reasons is because at this stage, with so much anti mod sentiment in the community, things will be deliberately misconstrued to create more drama. A light touch from mods is needed at this time.
For new accounts, yeah we should provide a brief message

I think we should make a huge mega thread for all these partisian/meta content, what are y'alls thoughts on this. This way people can still talk, and the main feed can actually be about [LABOR] reform. I just feel too guilty removing content without an automod note to redirect them elsewhere.
My reasoning for the meta stuff is so people can vent and not have to spread unnecessary information outside the subreddit into others. People want to talk, and simply removing it I think only compounds the issues. The more we try to remove or ignore it, the more people will talk about it (similar to anyone trying to tell others to not do something or deleting something off the internet, it makes it worse). I think reverse psychology is a better approach, and it leads to more transparency others can chime in without putting all the pressure on us to remediate information.

The more we try to remove or ignore it, the more people will talk about it
In my experience, the inverse is true. If we let people talk about something that generates polarized reactions, there's a cascading effect. They'll want to talk about it more. They'll comment on the commentary then comment on the commentary about the original comment and it'll just continue in an endless feedback loop of unproductive discussion.
Not opposed to discussion threads, but I am opposed to discussion threads specifically for people who want to post things that are against our subreddit's rules.
"A Succulent Peyote"
30-Jan-22 11:37 AM
it's already happening here though, and more so outside the subreddit, that's why a megathread can be useful.
"Look At Me, I'm The Captain Now"
30-Jan-22 11:38 AM
The reason rule 8 exists is because partisan political opinions are divisive to the community right now. We need to let it die back so we can eventually get rid of the rule entirely.
That's my big hope: if we get people off their partisan high horses and set the tone a bit better, we can stop enforcing that entirely.
"A Succulent Peyote"
30-Jan-22 11:39 AM
There needs to be an automod rule about this then, because people are not reading the rules we're trying to enforce without some explanation.
Without some heads up on why their content was removed, they're going to keep proliferating the stuff we don't want, especially since a lot of people aren't aware their content is being removed.
All the moderation we've been doing has only been postponing what's on people's minds, they need a clear explanation as to why it's not productive, on an individual level with each removal. There has been no feedback from us to the community about transparency, something this sub is trying to distinguish and be better about from r/saltedhash1625329382.
(edited)
At least that's my personal opinion and suggestion.

If people feel the need to vent about the subreddit, maybe they should leave the subreddit
People don't need to give input on everything we do

I think it's okay if we make mistakes here and there, and get criticism, that only gives us more room to listen, to improve, and adjust the features here in r/W.rk.R.frm. Things don't have to roll out perfectly, users want transparent feedback from us. Not directly communicating is communicating the wrong impression, which is why the fall out in r/saltedhash3090774004 went down.

Like, we want politicians kowtowing to workers and this is that
I think WR's structure should remain loose. My study of poor people's movements has led me to strongly belueve in "movements" over "mass membership orgs"
Like, we have used our mod powers to bat away a lot of unproductive stuff that was happening, but other than that, letting the community halfway run wild is likely to yield more wildcat action, which is historically the more effective agents of change

Not letting it devolve into R vs D is probably one of the things that makes it incredibly dangerous to existing power structures, bc we have taken away the primary divide and conquer tool of American power elite

I'm pretty sure this post has been let through a few times already
It's been on the front page of antiwork so more community interest in it / lots of people posting it

I've removed it a lot today

I've also been a little bit unsure about the content itself. Galvanizing for the community, but it may also breed distrust. I could be wrong about that though

Yeah, ackshually, after walking off for a minute -- I myself have 0 desire to beef w r/saltedhash1625329382
I didn't approach this that way, but that's what it would foster, coming from our WR community

There's a post in modmail asking when the voting process for mods will be. It was deleted. Since I didn't delete it, I'm leaving it for the senior mods. We should set a date and announce, and explain what has to happen between now and then to justify the delay.

Im goood with killin that
I approved it in part bc itd already been approved and didnt feel tooooo unprooductive and im trying to take a loose hand with community, but if 2 of us suspect its unproductive, im 100% good w killin it

I pretty quickly thought it was unproductive because it specifically mentions former mods and also just generally witch-hunti-ness

There was a really difficult time in SandersForPresident's past, around 2017/2018, where because Democrats made Russian meddling a campaign plank, any time there was a disagreement in comments, they accused one another of being paid Russian plants. I would like to avoid that kind of infighting here - that notion that "there are impostors among us."

Really sows the seeds of mistrust

Even if there are impostors among us, dealing with it is our problem, not theirs.

I'd say leave a comment asking them to remove links to other communities? Would normally be fine w it but really dont want drama w antiwork at all.

Yeah, I'm cool with it. I actually approved it but figured I should uphold the rule. But if you want to approve it, cool.
I usually err on the side of not exposing automod rules because that tells people how to get around them -- they'll slightly change the words, or just create a bunch of accounts and wait for them to hit four days. But yeah, this post definitely looks legit.
